Chemical Description
- Monosodium phosphate is a colorless crystal or white crystalline powder, and it is odorless.
- It is soluble in water; its aqueous solution is acidic and almost insoluble in ethanol.
- The heating loss of crystalline water can be decomposed into acid sodium pyrophosphate (Na3H2P2O7).
- It is often used in the fermentation industry to adjust pH, and food processing with disodium hydrogen phosphate is used to improve food quality.
- It is also used to improve the thermal stability of dairy products, fish products, acidity regulators, and knot agents.
- It is added to different food items, such as bakery products, soft drinks (dry-mix) formulations, carbonated beverages, processed cheese, seafood, and many other products, due to its capacity to regulate acidity, act as a buffer, and adjust the pH.
- It is used as a fireproofing agent in fertilizers and wood, paper, and fabrics (e.g., as an ember extinguisher in match sticks and candle wicks).
- Due to its pH-regulating capacity, it is widely used in food additive starter cultures and as a nutrient fortifier.
- Monosodium phosphate is also used in the feed industry as a feed additive for ruminants.
- This white crystalline chemical is used in pharmaceutical formulations as a pH buffer, in intravenous medications, and in some oral tablets.
- Mostly used in molecular biology and biochemical experiments as a buffer.
- It is used as a pH regulator and buffering agent in some of the cosmetics formulations.
- MSP is used in water treatment plants, boilers, and water distribution systems to inhibit scale formation and corrosion.
- It is an essential part of household or industrial cleaning products, helping to remove deposited scales and rust in various places.
- It is a food, agriculture, and industrial-grade chemical available in 25 Kg net bags with dimensions 10X10X5 cm.
- Monosodium Phosphate is a nonhazardous chemical, stable under normal conditions, and recommended for direct consumption.
