Chemical Description
- Dodecyl Benzene Chlorosulfonic Acid is also known as Linear Alkyl Benzene Sulphonic Acid (LABSA).
- LABSA is an anionic surfactant whose molecules are characterized by a hydrophilic and a hydrophobic group.
- This nonvolatile, honey-brown, sticky liquid is synthesized through the process of sulfonation, which includes the reagents sulfuric acid, chlorosulfonic acid, sulfamic acid, and diluted sulfur trioxide.
- It is the world's largest-volume synthetic surfactant, which includes the various salts of sulfonated alkylbenzenes.
- It is widely used in household detergents as well as in numerous industrial applications.
- LABSA is widely used in a variety of detergents and emulsifiers, such as washing powder, daily-use chemical detergents, and utensil detergents.
- It is widely used in the textile industry as a cleaning agent.
- It is used in the electroplating industry in electroplating baths to deposit metal coating onto surfaces.
- It is used in many chemical reactions and acts as a catalyst in chemical transformations without being used in the reaction.
- The acidic nature of Chlorosulfonic Acid promotes many reactions, such as Friedel-Crafts acylation.
- It is a very effective chemical used in the dehydration processes due to its reactive nature with water.
- LABSA is most widely used for sulfating liquid long-chain alcohols. This simple and rapid reaction is completed by the loss of HCL.
- This brown, sticky liquid is used to prepare sulfated guar gum, which has the potential to be an antioxidant.
- Due to its sharp odor, it is used in pesticides, dyes, and resins.
- Its usage is also noted in the manufacturing of some human and veterinary medicines.
- It is a strong oxidant that reacts violently with combustible and reducing matter. It is also corrosive and reacts with bases.
- Chlorosulfonic acid reacts strongly with water and produces HCL.
- It is available in different packaging: 220 Kg and 200 Kg plastic drums, 1050 Kg IBC metal bases, and 22000 Kg ISO tanks.
