Chemical Description
- Cyclohexane is a colorless, volatile, and flammable liquid with the formula C6H12.
- It has a mild odor and is insoluble in water but soluble in alcohol, ether, acetone, benzene, and ligroin.
- Cyclohexane occurs naturally in petroleum crude oil, volcanic gas, and cigarette smoke.
- Cyclohexane is used to make adipic acid, caprolactam, and hexamethylenediamine (accounting for 98% of total consumption).
- A small part is used to make cyclohexylamine and other aspects, such as fiber ethers, fats, and oils.
- Solvents for waxes, asphalts, resins, and rubber Chemicalbook glues; organic and recrystallization media; paint and varnish removers, etc.
- It can be used as raw material for nylon 6 and nylon 66.
- It can also be used as a polymerization diluent, paint release agent, detergent, adipic acid extractant, and adhesive, etc.
- Cyclohexane is commonly used as a non-polar solvent in the chemical industry due to its ability to dissolve substances that are not easily soluble in water.
- A significant portion of cyclohexane is used as a precursor in the production of nylon.
- It is oxidized to produce cyclohexanone and cyclohexanol, which are then used to manufacture adipic acid and caprolactam, key intermediates in nylon production.
- In laboratories, cyclohexane is used as a solvent for chemical reactions and chromatography due to its relatively low reactivity and compatibility with many organic compounds.
- Due to its solvent properties, cyclohexane is used in the formulation of adhesives and sealants.
- It helps in dissolving other components and improves the application properties of these products.
- It is used as a standard or reference material in environmental testing and analytical chemistry to help calibrate equipment and ensure accurate measurement of other chemicals.
- It is used in the production of certain paints and coatings, providing properties that enhance the drying process and finish of the coatings.
- Cyclohexane can be dehydrogenated to benzene, releasing hydrogen, which can then be used as a clean fuel.
- Available in 180 Kg drums packaging.
